Up Close and Personal with the Bum Bum
I know this may seem a tad too late because it’s already the rainy season and this product is speaking S-U-M-M-E-R. But hey, you gotta keep your skin moisturized all year round right? So without further adieu, let’s get our hands on this BUM.
I’m sure a lot of you have heard of this product especially if you watch YouTube Vloggers from the US. They have been constantly raving about this lotion slash moisturizing cream for a while now. More so this season because it’s summer in the States. This is none other than the SOL DE JANIERO BRAZILIAN BUM BUM CREAM.
Well to tell you honestly, I am very much into skin care lately but NEVER was I into lotions or body creams/body butters. I am the laziest person when it comes to slathering on some moisture onto my arms and legs. In fact, being lazy is an understatement, I really dislike it. I hate the sticky icky greasy feeling which 90% of all lotions and body creams give. I don’t feel moisturized, I just feel like some greasy meat about to be fried. So yeah, ever since I was a teenager, my mom and some of my close friends would tell me to moisturize but that never happened. All the body lotions I own (mostly gifts) go expired or go straight to disposal. I hope my skin doesn’t hate me when I reach my 40s. 🙁
With all this ranting, it’s so funny that I am actually reviewing a body moisturizer in this post! I don’t know why but it really got my attention and appealed to my curiosity. Thank goodness Sephora had the travel size so I thought it was a sign to give it a go. I don’t like wasting products so I really tend to buy the travel sizes first and then when I like it, I place it on my travel kit and just purchase the full size. It’s more economical that way. I’ve learned my lesson and no more wastage please!
Enough blabbering! LET’S GET TO THE BOTTOM of this… (get it? Haha) 🙂
First thing you’ll notice is the name. Yes, it’s initially meant as a moisturizer for…the BUM! Yup, your butt! Apparently, Brazilians give so much attention to their bottoms that they need a special moisturizer for it. Haha! But of course, it can be used as an all over moisturizer for the rest of your body.
Next up is the packaging. Like I said, I only purchased the travel size, which is more economical for me. This size actually comes in a tube, which is great for creams! But the actual packaging of the full sized Bum Bum Cream is actually a lovely sizable bright orange tub that just spells retro beach chic. How cute is that?
Now, on to the actual product… I was honestly scared at first so I just took a pea-sized amount. It was thick and creamy but somewhat whipped and soft. Surprisingly, it was not greasy at all! It soaked in fast and dried onto my skin like butter powder without the sticky icky feeling I hate. Ahh yes, that is so amazing! 🙂 And you know what else is amazing? The natural ingredients its packed with. It has Guarana, which is an excellent source of caffeine and antioxidants; Cupuaçu Butter, which is next generation cocoa butter that penetrates into the skin better; and of course Coconut Oil, with anti aging properties. Plus, it is formulated without Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, any animal by-products, propylene glycol, synthetic colors, PEGs, and petrolatum. Ooh what beautiful music to my ears! 🙂
After indulging on this newfound darling, a few minutes later, I found myself panicking because I noticed some very fine shimmer/glitter on my arm. Apparently, the product really does produce some glowy sheen when hit by the light. Argh I hate anything glittery on my skin! Especially not moisturizers! But then I realized, it’s not the kind of sheen that transfers or irritates. The particles were very fine and subtle. It actually looked natural and beautiful especially during sunny days and you apply it on your shoulders and back. I guess it really is a very summery product. Good thing the Philippines is a tropical country! 🙂
The formula was great and I loved it! I now get they hype but I also get why so many people don’t like it as well. I heard a lot of rants about the smell of this product. People who like the scent say it smells like the beach but I don’t think so. I think they did want to achieve that beach-coconut scent but it was rather too strong! The scent was like a mixture of coconut with darn robust vanilla that was almost intoxicating. Had they tamed down the scent to a more subtle, light, and “fresh” fragrance, it would have been perfect! But for now, the scent is just too much. It lingered on all day despite me washing my hands several times. 🙁
And one more thing, the full-sized tub retails at $45.oo! So pricey for a body cream! 🙁 Though, a little goes a long way so maybe it’s worth it. I’m not entirely sure if it’s already available here or on Sephora Ph but I got mine in the US.

So, am I going to purchase the full size of this amazing Brazilian Bum Bum Cream? YES, maybe on my third trimester, when my sense of smell is not that sensitive anymore. The scent is just too strong for me right now. It didn’t make me nauseous or anything since I love coconut scents but I’d rather not endure any kind of strong fragrance as of the moment. I’m sure it will also be a great product for stretch marks during pregnancy. I definitely love the formula and the natural ingredients and I would highly recommend it to friends who love moisturizing their bodies! 🙂
